The village got together on the Doorstep Green on Sunday 26th September to throw a surprise party for Redlingfield stalwarts Hazel and Pauline Abbott. For once neither of them had to make cakes or dole out teas and coffees. The party was the brainchild of Alison Smith and Lesley Rose Freitas and their families did most of the heavy lifting for the tea party. There were more than 80 villagers and family gathered for the party. Hazel said that herself and Pauline were surprised and amazed that everyone had kept it secret. She said they were “overwhelmed” and “gobsmacked” and that they wanted to thank everyone involved. There were even two birthday cakes. Pictured below are a tearful Pauline and surprised Hazel and the cake cutting.
