A potentially life-saving defibrillator has been unveiled in the small village of Redlingfield near Eye. It was inaugurated by Ian Winter at a ceremony during the Wednesday 1st September visit of the Rural Coffee Caravan to Redlingfield in front of more than 30 villagers. Parish meeting chair Midge Gibbons cut the ribbon. An appeal for donations from villagers, by the then Parish chair Ian Winter CBE, raised more than £3,300. £2,150 has been spent getting the defibrillator running and installed with the rest ring-fenced for its maintenance over the coming years. It has been installed in partnership with the Heartbeat Community Trust charity. They will provide villagers with training, information and guidance on its use and the maintenance and safety of the machine. It is in the old unused telephone box on the triangle in the centre of the village. Ian said: “This means that we will have life-saving equipment at the heart of the village. It will be linked to the Ambulance Service in the event of an emergency.” He added that he had been astonished by the speed and generosity of “friends and neighbours” who raised enough to install the defibrillator within hours of his appeal. The Rural Coffee Caravan, which has been visiting Redlingfield for 13 years, is a charity that helps rural communities throughout Suffolk. The Rural Coffee Caravan delivers information and help alongside tea, coffee and cakes.
